In a year marred with the Coronavirus Pandemic - we saw groups and individuals working harder than ever to adapt their services to online formats.

In 2020, the Hobsons Bay Community Fund provided $35,113 to 21 community projects across Hobsons Bay, under the Fair, Inclusive and Vibrant grant categories. 

HBCF has enabled projects focused on the arts, physical/mental health and wellbeing, positive ageing, access to food and housing security and environmental sustainability.

Hobsons Bay Men’s Shed & Gardening Group - Community Grant of $750

Long Space Gallery - Community Grant of $2,500

Newport Community Choir - Community Grant of $2,800

Leading Note Music Education - Community Grant of $4,200

Grant to provide a scholarship for four disadvantaged students to participate in the Crashendo music program to engender social inclusion and connection. Crashendo! is a music program at Laverton P-12 College which offers music tuition as a vehicle for positive social change. Click here to find out more about the program.


Hobsons Bay Toy Library - Community Grant of $2,400

Grant to support the purchase of new toys and equipment to increase access to Culturally and Linguistically Diverse communities and socially marginalised communities in Hobsons Bay. Click here to find out more about the Toy Library.


Williamstown Cricket Club - Community Grant of $2,500

Grant towards the purchase of equipment and umpire costs in the creation of a second All Abilities team to enhance inclusion and access to sport for the Hobsons Bay community. Click here to find out more about the Club.


Hobsons Bay Wetlands Centre - Community Grant of $1,500

Grant to support the process of securing legal advice to support application for Deductible Gift Recipient status necessary to attract donations from philanthropic and corporate organisations, allowing for the establishment of a purpose-built community asset at the Altona Wetlands. Altona Bowling Club - Community Grant of $1,600

Grant towards the production, distribution and presentation of a book titled ‘The D Word - A conversation about men’s depression’. Click here to find out more about the project.


Willy Wellness Collective - Community Grant of $1,500

Grant towards the delivery of the ‘Willy Wellness Community Festival’ aimed at helping connect locals with health providers and community clubs, as well as providing the opportunity to access free health education and advice. Please note: Due to COVID-19, the Festival has been postponed to late 2021.


Williamstown Swimming and Life Saving Club - Community Grant of $2,000

West Welcome Wagon - Community Grant of $1,333

South Kingsville Community Centre - Community Grant of $2,000

Grant to develop a website to become a repository of information and services for the community to access all eight local Community Centres. Click here to find out more about the Centre.


Ecstra Grant Program - The HBCF worked with the Ecstra Foundation to facilitate a grant of $100,000 to build financial capability within local communities. Through our networks, we were able to identify two worthy programs for a grant from the Ecstra Foundation. The funding went to the Inner West Communities Foundation for an Education Program in partnership with Victoria University and WynMay LLEN in partnership with Gordon TAFE to develop and deliver financial literacy programs in the local community.
