Leading Note Music Education Inc received a Hobsons Bay Community Fund grant for $4,200 towards the cost of four students to participate for a year in its Elgars Orchestra Project.

Students in the Elgars Orchestra Project are part of the larger Crashendo! program, which was established in 2011 as a partnership between Laverton P-12 College, Hobsons Bay City Council and Victoria Police Hobsons Bay.

Crashendo! students attend classes after school each week for orchestra and choir rehearsals. A large percentage of the participants are of Karen background—refugees who have fled persecution in Thailand and Burma.

Under the guidance of highly skilled teaching artists, the students develop technical proficiency, confidence, a strong sense of belonging, and pride in achievement.

The positive effect of Crashendo! extends beyond the children to their parents and the wider school community.
