Our fabulous leader and founder, Hayden Raysmith has retired – he handed over to the new chair Adrian Butera, Julie Noonan (Deputy Chair), Julie Richards (Secretary) and David Mattner (Treasurer) took the reins at our foundation meeting on 9th October.
We continue to have the strong support of Council, sitting board members Cr Sandra Wilson and Cr Peter Hemphill. The Mayor Jonathon Marsden was at the change-over. Council has agreed to fund a part-time executive officer in 2020.
We will now formally incorporate with the purpose “To build a perpetual philanthropic fund so as to benefit and strengthen the community of Hobsons Bay for present and future generations.
The main fundraising events will continue to be the Kooringal Golf Day in March, the Business Lunch in June and in 2020, an Open Garden day. The Fund will also continue its Inclusion Project with the University of Melbourne, which is working with the City of Hobsons Bay and City of Wyndham to increase the participation of young people with a disability in sporting and recreational clubs. The first three years of this project won two awards. It is now one year into a second three year agreement.
New goals are being set for this new era, including establishing a patrons/supporters group who will donate $1,000 a year for five years. The Fund will also create new strategic projects and partnerships and build a bequest program.
There is now an enormous amount of momentum and goodwill to drive the Fund forward. Since 2006 it has given 115 grants to a wide variety of mostly small grass roots organisations, totalling just over $300,000.
