2018 Grant Application Program

E-mail Print PDF

Grant applications for 2018 have now closed.  However, to provide information for future applicants, the 2018 grant application process remains outlined below.

The Hobsons Bay Community Fund invites grant applications for programs benefiting our local community. Grants are normally in the range from $500 to $5,000 and are to finance projects which address social disadvantage, promote general health and wellbeing and/or strengthen community networks.

Please use our application form to apply for a grant.  We try to keep the application form as simple as possible in the hope that all types and sizes of community organisations can apply for support. That's what we are here for. Applications close on 31 May 2018

About the Grants Process

The Hobsons Bay Community Fund (HBCF) is a perpetual fund that uses the interest earned from its corpus to make small grants (nominally $500 to $5,000) to local organisations and associations benefiting the Hobsons Bay community.

The HBCF believes that by working together, we can benefit and reinforce our community's capacity to look after itself for present and future generations. We are looking to support local groups that are trying to address local needs by building and strengthening sustainable community networks and programmes.

Local groups and organisations are invited to apply for grants of up to $5,000. The application process typically concludes mid-year with grants being awarded in the last quarter of each year.  These grants can give innovative community groups the seed funding needed to get them off the ground. Alternatively, it may provide funds for a disadvantaged group with a basic service that mainstream society takes for granted.

The Grants Sub-Committee of the Hobsons Bay Community Fund oversee the grants procedures and process for each grant round. The committee seeks guidance annually on areas of most need within our municipality and invites applications from not for profit organisations for funds to support projects or activities that contribute in a positive and sustainable way to our local community.  The fund also has the capacity to support other organisations in areas such as the encouragement or advancement of sport, recreation, arts or social activities where such applications can clearly demonstrate a benefit to the wider community and the inclusion of people considered to be disadvantaged.  If you are unsure of your eligibility for a grant, please email us.

In general, the HBCF will not fund the following:

  • programs undertaken outside of the Hobsons Bay municipality;
  • programs with more appropriate alternative funding sources;
  • ongoing admin costs and salaries;
  • general fundraising campaigns or annual appeals;
  • funds for investment, debt servicing or organisational reserves.

Community groups are encouraged to submit an application for a grant by completing a Grant Application Form.  These applications are then assessed against the selection criteria. The Grants Committee will be looking for programs and projects that build on local community strengths and assets, whilst developing pride amongst recipients. Successful organisations will be advised of the outcome of the selection process in October/November.
